WWE Backlash 2025: Five Intelligent Booking Decisions and John Cena Victory.

BACKLASH 2025

WWE Backlash 2025: The Official Follow-Up to Wrestle Mania 41 and WWE’s Shot at Redemption.

WWE Backlash 2025 is shaping up to be more than just another premium live event—it’s the much-needed sequel to WrestleMania 41 and a golden opportunity for WWE to redeem itself in the eyes of fans.

While WrestleMania 41 broke financial records and went down as the most lucrative event in WWE history, it failed to deliver where it mattered most: entertainment. Aside from a few standouts matches, the show struggled to meet expectations, with the highly anticipated main event between John Cena and Cody Rhodes, featuring the legendary John Cena, being widely criticized as one of the worst WrestleMania headliners of all time. John Cena’s performance was particularly scrutinized, raising questions about his future in the main event scene.

In the months since, WWE has faced growing discontent among its loyal fanbase, thanks to a string of confusing creative decisions and a series of unexpected talent releases. As a result, the company has seen a dip in fan trust and enthusiasm.

Backlash 2025, set to take place in St. Louis, now stands as a pivotal moment. With a promising card on paper, the event has the potential to course-correct WWE’s momentum and reestablish faith in its storytelling.

Fans are eager to see how John Cena will respond to the criticism at Backlash 2025. Many are hoping that he can reclaim his status as a top performer in WWE.

For John Cena, this event represents an opportunity to silence critics and remind everyone why he is a fan favorite. His performance at Backlash could determine his trajectory moving forward.

Lyra Valkyria Scores Hard-Fought Victory Over Becky Lynch in Thrilling Match.

Within a mere 24 hours from WrestleMania Sunday to the Raw following WrestleMania 41, Becky Lynch made her return after almost a year, captured the women’s tag titles, lost them shortly after, and then turned heel on Lyra Valkyria.

WWE managed to exhaust several months’ worth of bookings in just one day, and it might ultimately prove to be a wise decision.  Lynch stands out as the top all-around performer in WWE’s women’s division. Following WWE’s significant cuts to its women’s mid card during the spring-cleaning firing spree, Valkyria has emerged as one of the most notable stars in WWE’s mid card.

Lynch’s booking decision is a calculated effort to inject essential star power into the Intercontinental Championship scene while also elevating Valkyira into a legitimate star.  Both of those things are more easily expressed than accomplished. “Nonetheless, the solution might require a more comprehensive program that integrates Lynch with Valkyria.”

Considering that Lynch is just beginning her heel run and feud with Valkyria, the most effective booking decision at Backlash would be for Valkyria to narrowly secure a victory, possibly through an inside cradle or small package pin.  In this scenario, an enraged Lynch can lose her composure, confront Valkyria, prolong the rivalry, and elevate her status as a heel in the process.

Finn Bálor and Dominik Mysterio Break Up, Signaling the End of The Judgment Day.

Dominik Mysterio, who recently won the Intercontinental championship at WrestleMania 41, is expected to retain it when he faces Penta at WWE Backlash 2025.

Having said that, Mysterio’s Judgement Day faction has been dying for some time.  Since the summer is usually a slow season for WWE programming, it’s time for the group to break up and for its collapse to be the main plot point of Raw’s stories.

WWE’s decision to feature John Cena prominently at Backlash could also significantly impact future storylines, depending on how he performs.

This match could be pivotal for John Cena’s career, marking a turning point in his narrative as a WWE superstar.

What’s the best approach to do that?  Balor betrays Mysterio, who is unexpectedly and swiftly winning over fans.  That doesn’t mean Mysterio has to lose at Backlash, but if Balor intentionally costs Mysterio the match, it might cause Judgement Day to collapse.

However, WWE must schedule a conclusion that places Mysterio and Balor on opposite sides of a Judgement Day split, even if Mysterio does manage to hold onto the IC title.  WWE must finally take action, regardless of whether Balor was intentionally hurting Mysterio, attempting to help him and losing the bout, or just attacking him.

Gunther Dominates Pat McAfee in Crushing Victory at WWE Backlash 2025.

As John Cena steps into the ring, fans will be watching closely to see if he can deliver a performance worthy of his legacy.

With the pressure mounting, John Cena has everything to prove at WWE Backlash 2025. His ability to engage the audience will be crucial in determining the event’s success.

Ultimately, John Cena’s journey at WWE Backlash will be closely scrutinized, with fans hoping for a triumphant return to form.

Gunther has been a champion for the majority of his career, particularly on the main roster. He has held two extended title reigns, one as the Intercontinental Champion and the other as the World Heavyweight Champion.  Gunther regained the World Heavyweight title at SummerSlam mere months after losing the IC title to Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 40 last year.

As Cena navigates his role as a villain, fans will be eager to see if he can adapt and deliver a memorable performance this time around.

If John Cena can bring his A-game, he has the potential to redefine his character and reshape fan perceptions.

However, Gunther is expected to experience an extended absence from the championship scene due to the current state of the world title photographs on Raw and SmackDown.  “The Ring General” will confront Raw commentator Pat McAfee at Backlash, a rare match for the former NFL star. This is a rare shift for him.

It is self-evident that Gunther has no right to lose to McAfee at WWE Backlash 2025.  As a means of regaining momentum after his unexpected submission loss to Jey Uso at WrestleMania 40, Gunther should absolutely decimate the adored McAfee.

John Cena’s presence in the match is sure to elevate the stakes, captivating fans and keeping them on the edge of their seats.

When it comes to the follow-up to John Cena’s spectacular villain turn at Elimination Chamber, WWE has truly failed.

The character as a whole feel utterly false, and Cena has been the most stereotypical heel WWE could have hired him as.  However, WWE continues to support a villain like Cena, and his little feud with hometown hero Randy Orton of St. Louis has been good for what it is.

The issue is whether or not anyone really thinks Cena will give up the WWE belt so soon.  Considering that Cena only earned his WWE Championship a few weeks ago, it’s obvious that he won’t be relinquishing the belt anytime soon.  Cena will hold onto the championship until the perfect opportunity arises to take it away from him, especially because he is playing an antagonist for the first time in twenty years.

Even though this will probably be Orton’s final match, it will only be a fantastic final match between two of the greatest of all time.  Ultimately, WWE had the option to either turn around or continue to ride the wave of Cena’s terrible villain run.

And it appears that the latter is taking place, as Cena continues to maintain his title through dishonest methods.  So, at WWE Backlash 2024, anticipate him to do just that.
