Title 3

Simone Biles, an Olympic gymnast, and Riley Gaines, a former collegiate swimmer turned right-wing activist, exchanged insults on Friday about a transgender softball champion. Gaines referred to the player as a boy before Biles intervened to defend the player on X, which was formerly known as Twitter.

Gaines, an outspoken critic of transgender athletes in women's sports, noted that the Minnesota State High School League removed comments from a post featuring the winners of a softball state championship. He anticipated the comments when the star player was a boy.

Biles responded to Gaines' tweet a few hours later, describing her as "truly sick" and asserting that her campaign against transgender athletes was solely motivated by her fifth-place tie with trans swimmer Lia Thomas in a 2022 NCAA freestyle championship event.

Biles stated in a subsequent tweet that Gaines should be "bullying someone your size, which would ironically be a male," and that he should be advocating for a trans category in all sports or finding ways to make sports more inclusive for trans athletes.

Gaines maintained his criticism of Biles on Saturday morning, asserting that the Olympic champion had "just personally attacked someone who stands up for women and girls."
