‘The Accountant 2’ will hit theaters — nine years after the original film
According to Amazon, Ben Affleck will lead in the sequel, which is set to premiere on the streaming service platform on June 5th.
Ben Affleck’s Christian Wolff persona drives the action thriller sequel as he “works” the murder investigation of a former associate. Highly successful certified public accountant Wolff also suffers with autism. Wolff tracks his younger brother Braxton, a mercenary portrayed by Jon Bernthal, to help him discover the killer.
An Amazon MGM Studios logline said, “Christian Wolff possesses a talent for solving complex problems.” “When an old friend is killed, leaving behind a cryptic message to “find the accountant,” Wolff is driven to crack the mystery.”
“Let’s start with the original ‘The Accountant’ starring Ben Affleck, remove the arithmetic, add some country line dancing, and then multiply it by two brothers. Though it is not as popular as the first crime thriller, the end product is nonetheless mostly fulfilling,” Truitt said.
Reprising his character as Christian Wolff, Ben Affleck has been nine years in development.
Directed by Gavin O’Connor, the 2016 premiere of The Accountant follows Christian, an autistic maths prodigy employed as a freelancer for violent criminal groups. Christian takes an above-board position checking the accounts at Living Robotics as the U.S. Treasury Department sniffs about.
When he teams with internal accountant Dana Cummings (Anna Kendrick), they find that CEO Lamar Blackburn (John Lithgow) has embezzled $60 million from the business. This information targets their backs and Christian has to act with all his ability to guard Dana.
But when he finds out his long-lost brother Braxton (Jon Bernthal) is directing the squad of hitmen guarding Lamar, his personal and professional spheres intersect.
The movie finishes with Christian killing Lamar and the brothers pledging to get back in touch soon—under better conditions.
When the Accountant 2 opens theatres in April 2025, Christian and Braxton will be on the same side. Together, the two help to solve the murder of J.K. Simmons, the director of the Treasury Department’s financial crimes bureau. :
Affleck told Vanity Fair on February 11 that he felt “more prepared and educated” to portray Christian in the follow-up.
“He put the clothes back on and he just started becoming the strange laboratory of Chris’s brain, and he just started expressing Chris again in very honest, authentic, very real way,” O’Connor said.
Here is all you need to know about the much awaited sequel including directions for viewing it.
