It should come as no surprise that Kate Middleton’s primary goal of working with young children was the subject of her first formal meeting since her chemotherapy ended.  Her primary public mission is to advocate for the best conditions for parents, caregivers, and children during their early years, even if her personal focus is on being a present parent alongside Prince William for her three children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.  In 2023, her spokesperson stated that it “will be a golden thread throughout her working life.”

The 42-year-old Princess of Wales said she was “looking forward to undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months” when she and her family announced in an emotional video on September 9 that her chemotherapy was done.  People close to her at the time predicted that she would likely take on a light workload, and she has since continued working from home, attending meetings, keeping up with significant events, and making phone calls.

However, on September 17, she had her first formal meeting.  The article simply states, “The Princess of Wales, Joint Patron, the Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales, held an Early Years Meeting at Windsor Castle this afternoon.” It was noted in the Court Circular, which is published in The Times and The Daily Telegraph newspapers.  During the meeting, the first Court Circular entry of 2024 was made.

She took another big step forward with this meeting. Kate announced in a video message on March 22 that she was getting treatment for cancer. Since then, she has gone on two public appearances: the first was in June to support King Charles at his official birthday parade, Trooping the Colour; and the second was in July at Wimbledon with her daughter Princess Charlotte and her sister Pippa Middleton Matthews.

Kate is thought to have met with her main assistants and the people who run her Center for Early Childhood, which is part of The Royal Foundation and is run by her husband William. The meeting took place at Windsor Castle on September 17.  During average times, she meets with them often.

Kate has been a working royal for more than 13 years, and her focus on the early years has been a big part of her public work.  When she opened her own office of the foundation in January 2023, it was the latest step in a learning process that had been going on for about ten years. She was gathering information about the topic and experts to help her with her projects and give her advice.

In the U.K. last year, she promoted a new campaign called “Shaping Us” by going on the road and meeting moms with babies and other people in the city’s market. She also spent time with students at the city’s university who are studying the early years, which was very important.

People will be glad to see her name again in the Court Circular, which is an official list of royal events. This is seen as a sign that her health is getting better, but it doesn’t mean that she will start having meetings every day.  Kate told her family in the powerful video that came out on September 9 that she still had a long way to go. “My path to healing and full recovery is long, and I must continue to take each day as it comes,” she said.

When William, 42, told people in Llanelli, Wales on September 10 that Kate’s growth was “good news,” he seemed to repeat that message. He said that there was “still a long way to go.”

Kate started working from home in the early summer, around the same time that she went to Trooping the Colour, which was one of the few public events she had this year.  She has been meeting with her top staff members ever since, such as her new private secretary Tom White, her junior private secretary Natalie Barrows, and her communications chief Lee Thompson.

She does, however, plan to go to the Remembrance Day service on November 10, which is right after Prince William gets back from the Earth Shot Prize Awards in Cape Town, South Africa.  Kate is not going with him on that trip.

After that, Kate will be busy with her yearly Christmas concert in December, which honors many of the causes she has worked for all year.  People who work in the early years field are always very important to that.

In other news, she wasn’t the only surprise in the Court Circular on September 17. Kensington Palace also said that William had a behind-the-scenes visit that day, going to Hereford to see the special forces.  The statement said, “The Prince of Wales visited the 22nd Special Air Service Regiment this morning at Stirling Lines, Credenhill, Herefordshire.”
