BET Awards 2025 Pre-Show Info & How to Watch:
The BET Awards organizers have reiterated that the 2025 ceremony at the Peacock Theater will proceed as scheduled on Monday evening, despite the ongoing widespread demonstrations across Los Angeles County against unlawful immigration raids.
A spokesperson for BET stated in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, “BET is steadfast in its dedication to the safety of our guests and employees.” We are closely collaborating with the LAPD and monitoring the situation.
The 2025 BET Awards are scheduled to occur on Monday, June 9th, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
This week, violent clashes ensued in Los Angeles during immigration raids, as protests escalated into street battles between law enforcement and demonstrators. On June 6, demonstrations descended into chaos as crowds engaged in running battles with LAPD and ICE agents who were conducting raids to apprehend undocumented individuals.
On June 7, the unrest escalated, resulting in new confrontations between activists and federal officers in Paramount and Compton as a result of ongoing enforcement operations. On Sunday, the situation in Los Angeles reached a peak as thousands of residents converged on the streets encircling City Hall and the federal courthouse, resulting in the closure of a major freeway.
This action was in response to President Donald Trump’s decision to deploy the National Guard of California to suppress the demonstrations. Questions have arisen regarding significant public events in the Los Angeles region as a result of the demonstrations.
Governor Gavin Newsom of California formally requested that the Trump Administration “rescind their unlawful deployment of troops in Los Angeles County and return them to my command” in response. In an Instagram post, he further stated, “We were not experiencing any issues until Trump became involved.”
Such an act is a grave violation of state sovereignty, as it serves to escalate tensions and divert resources from their intended destinations. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, further escalating tensions: “Active-duty Marines at Camp Pendleton will also be mobilized — they are on high alert” if violence persists.
Newsom responded to Hegseth by asserting that the Secretary of Defense is now threatening to deploy active-duty Marines on American soil against its citizens. This is a form of derangement
